New Group Tackles Pump House Restoration

Have you thought about how cool it would be to have regular access to the Pump House? The stately old structure has seen better days, and will again thanks to a new group dedicated exclusively to the revitalization of the Pump House.

Friends of Pump House is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to achieve a certificate of occupancy for the building. The process will include overcoming many barriers such as:

  • retrofitting water and sewage infrastructure;
  • roof repair;
  • addition of another egress point; and
  • installation of a handicap-accessible elevator.

Each addition or repair is necessary to meet the unique requirements of a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

FOJRP has long realized the need for a dedicated group focused on rescuing the Pump House, a group with the ability to direct its attention and resources exclusively on the needs of the building, the canal and Washington’s Arch. We welcome the addition of this new group to the list of Park supporters. For more information about the group go to: friendsofpumphouse.org.
