Happy Birthday to US!

Hello Friends of the James River Park!

In September we are excited to celebrate the 50th Birthday of our beloved James River Park System. Since the initial 380 acres were donated by friends Jack Keith and Joe Schafer to create a park along the river in 1972, millions of Richmonders and visitors have enjoyed our little slice of urban wilderness. At Friends of the James River Park, we are grateful to be a part of that legacy as we work today to protect, expand, and enhance the Park. In recognition of this important milestone, we are working with our partners at the City of Richmond to host a birthday party for the Park on September 17th, and we would love for you to join us.

The JRPS 50th Birthday Party will take place on Belle Isle from 12-4 on September 17th, 2022. This family-focused event will offer a taste of what the JRPS has to offer. Visitors to Belle Isle that day will be able to get hands-on with some of the recreational activities that can be done in the Park, and learn about the different organizations that work in and around the Park to make the James River Park possible.

We want to thank Whitten Brothers Automotive for sponsoring the event on Belle Isle, and all of the partner organizations that will be with us celebrating that day. The Park would not be possible without the actions of individual citizens getting involved to make a difference in their community and it is our hope that by celebrating this 50th birthday event we can inspire more people to get involved in the important work that is being done in our Park.
