Last year, we launched Camera to Canvas with a twofold goal: To highlight the work of photographer Bill Draper and the incredible arts community of Richmond, and as a fundraising vehicle for the James River Park System. We feel as if we met that first goal, and we raised a little over $80,000 towards Park improvements, programs, and furthering our mission to protect, preserve, and enhance the Park.
Bill is one of our Board Members, and his images have brought a lot of attention to what is arguably Richmond’s greatest asset. Most recently, photographs from Bill’s collection of the iconic Hollywood Buck helped to identify a poacher who killed this famous deer, and aided in obtaining a conviction for the crime. But more than that, he captures the daily beauty of the Park and the creatures that call it home. Images like this:
