Help keep the “woods” in Huguenot Flatwater Woods. Most of this area’s mature trees are being smothered by invasive wintercreeper. You can make sure they survive for decades to come so they can shade and cool the park, provide habitat for wildife, and contribute to a healthier James River.
PLEASE NOTE: RIVERSIDE DR. LOCATION Location is small parking lot on Riverside Drive by trailhead–just east of Huguenot Bridge and across Riverside Drive from Oxford Parkway. NOT the large parking lot/boat launch at the Southampton Road park entrance.
Volunteers will use small hand tools–pruners and handsaws–to cut winter creeper and English ivy vines climbing trees and then clear a buffer around the base of each tree.
Tools and work gloves provided. Feel free to bring your own work gloves if preferred.
VOLUNTEERS MUST:
Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts (strongly recommended), and sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots (clothing should completely cover ankles). Leggings and materials that easily snag are discouraged.
Bring a water bottle.
Arrive on time for orientation and to reach work site.
