We’re thrilled to announce the return of the Wood River Run 2025, a 5K memorial run hosted by Friends of the James River Park, taking place on Saturday, April 26th, 2025. Join us as we come together to honor the life of Christian Wood, support our beloved James River Park System, and raise funds to send kids to Passages Adventure Camp.
This annual event is more than just a run—it’s a tribute to the adventurous spirit of Christian Wood. Christian was a talented young kayaker who lost his life in an accident on the James River in 2018. He was a counselor at Passages Adventure Camp and loved the James River Park System. This race was started in his memory, and this is the 4th year that FOJRP has hosted the event. Funds raised from the race benefit the Christian Wood Scholarship Fund, which helps to send economically disadvantaged kids to Passages Adventure Camp, and the work of Friends of the James River Park.
This year’s event is once again being sponsored by our friends at the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. Fleet Feet is also sponsoring prizes for the fastest racers in each age group. We are proud to be able to work with great local companies who share our values and love for the Park.

Location: Pony Pasture, James River Park System

Time: 8:00 AM check-in | 9:00 AM race start

Course: The race starts in Pony Pasture parking lot and the route runs along Riverside Dr. It is an out-and-back course along the road. The whole thing is paved, with a little bit of gravel at the starting and finish line.
