This Year’s Wood River Run will be on Saturday, April 25th in the Park!
Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe, but this year marks our 6th time hosting the Wood River Run. This family-friendly 5K race through the James River Park System always provides tons of enjoyment for those who participate and has two fantastic benefits. Proceeds from your registration help to fund our mission and also helps to fund the Christian Wood Scholarship Fund at Passages Adventure Camp.
Christian Wood was a counselor at Passages and also an elite kayaker. He sadly lost his life in a tragic accident while practicing the sport that he loved while on the river he cherished. His mantra and solution to life’s challenges came down to three words: “Just Get Outside.”
While we will use our portion of the funds for Park improvements and our education programs, Passages uses theirs to invite deserving kids in the Richmond region to participate in a week of adventure sports – kayaking, cycling, climbing, zip-lining, and more. The kids supported by the Scholarship Fund would otherwise lack the financial means to experience these things.
The race itself is well-suited for experienced runners, the weekend joggers, and even families with strollers. Each year, we’re also joined by a few well-behaved dogs on leashes. The race route will venture along Riverside Drive and give you beautiful views of the James River and popular Park areas like Pony Pasture and more.
Registration is currently $35, but will go up after April 18th. We hope that you’ll grab a friend or running buddy and join us for this amazing event that helps enforce Christian’s mantra – Just Get Outside.
