Can You Believe It’s Almost Springtime?

Dear Friends of the James River Park

Can you believe it is almost springtime? It won’t be long and the park will start turning green again. With the high temps this week I wouldn’t be surprised if we started to see signs of Spring.

One of the easiest ways to support FOJRP in the Spring is by participating in the Wood River Run. This is the annual 5k memorial race we host in memory of Christian Wood. Christian was a talented young kayaker who lost his life on the James River in 2018.

This year the Wood River Run is on April 26th. The event will take place at Pony Pasture again this year. Runners and walkers are welcome, as are strollers and on-leash dogs. The race is timed and all participants will receive a finishing medal.

You can signup and learn more about the event here- https://runsignup.com/wrr25

We are also selling t-shirts to support the race here- https://www.bonfire.com/wood-river-run-2025-t-shirts-1/

Buying a t-shirt is a great way to support the cause, even if you can’t be there in-person.

Proceeds from the run benefit the James River Park System, and are used to fund scholarships to Passages Adventure Camp in memory of Christian Wood.

We want to thank the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for once again being the presenting sponsor for the event this year. We are also grateful to CoStar, and Fleet Feet for sponsoring this year’s event.

Thank you for your support, I hope we will see you at the Wood River Run.
