Most people don’t get excited about some bathroom renovations in a park, especially when that bathroom is closed to the public. But the bathroom at the Pony Pasture is one of the few established bathhouses in the James River Park System to not only have running water but to not simply be a Port-a-John.
We wanted the public to know that James River Park System (JRPS) and Friends of James River Park took the opportunity of a closed building during the Covid-19 pandemic to upgrade the Pony Pasture Bathrooms with a new paint job and color scheme along with an upgraded floor. This renovation will certainly provide a better user experience. The other important part of this upgrade is that this checks off an Action Item listed in the James River Park System Master Plan, under Chapter 3 of Maintenance and Operations Improvements.
FOJRP funded the floor renovation and JRPS staff painted the interior walls. This will allow for more efficient and easier cleaning to occur. This is in combination with a year round water fountain JRPS installed last year as part of the overall upgrades to this facility.
