RISAW: Invasive Plant Removal at Pony Pasture

The Organization:

The James River Park System consists of approximately 600 acres of forested land in the city of Richmond along the James River. Staff and volunteers work year-round to remove invasive plants and create opportunity for native species to thrive.

The Event:

Join the James River Park System’s Invasive Species Management team during THE FIRST volunteer event of RISAW 2025!

Leaders and registered volunteers will meet at 1pm on Sunday, March 2nd 2025 at Pony Pasture. We will use hand pruners, loppers, and/or handsaws to remove invasive vines. Feel free to bring your own gardening gloves. Otherwise, supplies and  instructions will be provided by JRPS staff.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

*Register to participate and receive updates about event at https://www.cfengage.org/calendar

*Arrive by the start time (1:00pm).

*Wear long sleeves, long pants, socks and sturdy closed-toe shoes.

*Bring drinking water.

*In addition to the event description (above), physical activities also include walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting. With questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the event coordinator prior to event.

*Experience isn’t necessary. But learning is!

Hazards include but are not limited to: poison ivy, thorns, stinging insects, uneven terrain and weather conditions. Please prepare accordingly.

 

Location:

We will meet in the large gravel parking lot of Pony Pasture, next to the intersection of Riverside Dr and Rockfalls Dr. More detailed directions will be shared via email with registered participants (register via https://www.cfengage.org/calendar).
