Nurture Healthy Habitat at the Rapids Restoration Area!
Join the JRPS invasive plant management team to remove invasive plants in Pony Pasture. This November and December we plan to focus on removal of invasive shrubs–Amur honeysuckle and privet–in the trail corridors and on removal of invasive vine groundcover (English ivy and Wintercreeper) in restoration areas near the park entrance.
No experience necessary, just a willingness to pay attention, learn to recognize a species or two, and follow instructions. Removal of shrubs will involve the use of tools–pruners, loppers, and handsaws.
JRPS will provide tools and work gloves.
We might end the event prior to noon, but we will need time to walk to the work site and for orientation and training. We will meet at or near the east end of the parking either by the picnic tables or near the bridge leading to the restroom facility. If you are having trouble finding the group, please text or call 804-629-1229.
VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- Arrive on time.
- Wear long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots.
- Do not wear leggings or any material that easily snags.
- Bring a water bottle.
If you register but then are unable to participate, please cancel in the Community Foundation system.
Please note: If you need to contact the project leader the morning of the event, call or text 804-629-1229.
