October Creative Workshop 
Wednesday, October 10, 5:30-7 pm
Come explore your creativity, enjoy the park, and get inspired in an on-site Creative Workshop, facilitated by the park's Artist-in-Residence. Wednesday, October 10th from 5:30-7 pm join in on an all levels fun event. Meet at 5:30pm at the Pony Pasture parking lot.

Leave your art supplies at home, we're using natural found materials! You will be led through creative exercises as you sit in nature along the river and engage with the James River Park in a creative, intentional way.

Upcoming Races to benefit FOJRP 

Join Virginia's Governor Ralph Northam for The Governor's Race featuring the Governor's 5K (a run/walk) and the First Lady's Kids Run in downtown Richmond and along the James River. The 5K promises to be a challenging urban course featuring bridges, hills and views of the river and historic sites. All runners and all walkers are welcome. Participation in the 5K is capped at 500 registered runners and walkers. The Governor's Race is organized in partnership with the Richmond Road Runners Club and its volunteers. All profits from this race will be donated to FeedMore, Keep Virginia Beautiful, and the Friends of the James River Park.

Join Richmond Road Runners Club for the first running of Richmond Road Runners Club's Poop Loop 4ish Miler. RRRC is partnering with the James River Park System to offer this Sunday evening trail run on October 28th at 6 pm. These trails are beginner-friendly. Children age 6 and older and youth are welcome to run this event.  Don't delay -- there are only 200 spots available for this trail race.

Henricopolis Soil & Water Conservation District invites Henrico County students to participate in the annual Conservation Poster Contest to share their thoughts and help inform others about important conservation issues.

The theme for 2018 is "Watersheds: Our Water, Our Home."

The Great Return of the Atlantic Sturgeon    

Celebrate James River Week and the Great Return of the Atlantic Sturgeon with the James River Association on September 13 and 14! Join staff members on a guided canoe program or an outing on the Spirit of the James, the James River Association's pontoon boat. Participants will learn about the natural resources of the James River and the endangered Atlantic sturgeon, which make an annual migration up the James River in late summer where they often can be seen breaching out of the water!

Films on the Floodwall | Sept 12, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm 
Celebrate James River Week at Films on the Floodwall, a free family-friendly film screening organized by the James River Advisory Council, James River Outdoor Coalition, and James River Association. This annual event is held at Diversity Park in the James River Park System where films are projected onto Richmond's floodwall. 

Paddle for Pups 2018 | Sept 15, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) for a fun morning of paddling on the James River to raise money for parvovirus treatment at the shelter. Bring your dog (on leash) and your own canoe, kayak, or stand-up-paddleboard. If you need to rent a boat, please contact Riverside Outfitters (804-560-0068) in advance and mention "RACC Paddle for Pups" for a discounted price. 
Trails and Ales | Oct 6, 4:00 - 8:00 pm
Calling all beer drinkers with a trail running problem! Sportsbackers is hosting their fourth annual Trails & Ales trail run and beer festival! Runners will have two distance options (8-miler and a 5k) to choose from before finishing at the beer festival, where local craft brews, music, and good friends await! 

King of the James | Nov 11, 9:00 am 
Join the James River Outdoor Coalitionfor the fourth annual 'King of the James' adventure triathlon on Sunday, November 11th. Individuals and teams will battle it out as they run the Forest Hill Trail loop, mountain bike theButtermilk and North Bank Trails, and paddle the urban whitewater found deep in the heart of the Richmond's fall line.
