VCU CreateAThon Students Create A Ton!!

If I told you everything our team of five talented, passionate, energetic (and tired) VCU students came up with during their marathon 24-hour creating session over VCU's Spring Break last week, it would exhaust you! FOJRP was one of ten local non-profits chosen to participate in this wonderful pro bono effort that produces amazing work that we non-profits could never afford otherwise.

To help FOJRP reach out to Spanish-speaking park users, Adrian Robertson, Alex Ledford, Isabella Althoff, team leader Lauren Albee, and Liz Vidal created more than a dozen targeted, workable, fantastic pieces for us! Among their creations was a charming radio spot in Spanish that introduces the park-loving character, Super Amigo, sharp-looking signs and slogans that blew us away, fabulous event ideas, trash bag designs, a logo for Spanish-speaking friends, Spanish info for our web site, a bonus radio spot in English and more! Our favorite line and sign: Take Pride. Este es tu rio. (It's your river.)

Our tired team shows off just some of their great work.

Our board is working with them, our web site wonders Susan Martin and Stephanie Saccone of Webbones (who give FOJRP 2 hours of pro bono work every month!) and Park Manager, Ralph White, to prioritize and get moving to put our team's creativity into action in the park, in the community, and on our web site. We can't thank our team enough, as well as coordinator Tara Hendelman and CreateAThon leader Peyton Rowe, but we are working on getting our fearless (!?!) creatives out on our beloved James River before school lets out. THANK YOU, CREATEATHON, from the bottom of our park and river-loving hearts!!!

FOJRP Wants to Make More Friends this April

As the weather warms up, FOJRP will be out at festivals on weekends, telling folks about the wonderful James River Park System, handing out JRPS license plate applications (until June 1st), and just being all-around friendly-like. If you'd like to help us make new friends and learn more about what the park and the Friends do, consider helping us staff a table at these upcoming events. You'd be paired with a board member, so you would get friendly on-the-job training. It's fun and a great way to meet park-lovers and encourage more folks to get involved making the JRPS a better place. Contact Volunteer Coordinator, Elaine Marolla at [email protected] if you'd like to help. Thanks!

Fish & Friends at Pescados China Street

Thanks so much to Bob Windsor and Todd Manley, owners of Pescados China Street for their partnership with us on Monday, March 14th. We had a very nice crowd at Pescados on their fundraising Monday and they donated 15% of all the day's sales. FOJRP was the appreciative beneficiary of $328! That was some of the tastiest fundraising we've had the pleasure of benefiting from. Thanks, too, to everyone who came out for the fantastic fish and fun!
