Programming and Education
Penelope Davenport Gorman
Penelope Davenport began her professional work with James River Park System as an Adventure Educator in 2015, subsequently moving into the role of Outdoor Education Supervisor. Whitewater paddling, mountain biking, and exploring have led Penelope to rivers, creeks, and trails all over the United States and up into Ontario, but she can most often be found pursuing those passions here in her home Park.
Tyler is an outdoor enthusiast who came to Richmond to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies, fell in love with the river and never looked back. His position as an Environmental Educator with JRPS since 2015 allows him to share his passion for the outdoors with Richmond’s youth. He is a Certified Interpretive Guide and works closely with the Virginia Association for Environmental Education to strengthen outdoor education in our state. If you cannot find him canoeing, biking or watching the sunset in the park, he has probably gone down to the beach to catch some waves!
Keep the Park Safe
Please call 911 in case of an emergency. To report non-urgent issues, call the RPD Police non-emergency number at (804) 646-5100.
If on a trail, look for closest trail marker and give the dispatcher trail marker information.
We love our Park Staff!
Where would we be without the dedication of the James River Park staff? Certainly up a river without a paddle. If you’d like to say thank you, pick and dispose of any trash you see on your walk, hike, paddle or ride or make a gift to support the Friends who in turn support the Park.
