Red Fox

red fox

The red fox is a cunning hunter that has adapted easily to human impact. Foxes are most active during the early morning hours and prefer small animals such as rodents, rabbits, and birds, but will also eat fruits and vegetables.

Recorded activity in the James River Park

This VERY secretive member of the Park community, the wide-ranging and elusive red fox, is rarely seen by Park users, but they are around. They move along wildlife and human-made trails that crisscross the landscape, connecting river and island habitats with upland forests and surrounding neighborhoods.
